Here are some examples of events that the Interfaith Council has done in the past:
A night of food, performances, and sharing BU’s religious traditions! We had an Interfaith Showcase (with performances of religious song and dance) , Interfaith Buffet (with dishes from different religious traditions, including latkes, samosas, baklava, and more…), and Religion Booths (representing our many Religious Life Groups and religions on campus).
RELIGION MYTHBUSTERS: PANEL SERIES
A panel series aimed at breaking down stereotypes and misconceptions about various religious traditions , including Islam and Sikhism. Each panel featured a practicing student, a local religious leader, and a professor.
CARDS & SCARVES SERVICE PROJECT
In celebration of UN Interfaith Harmony Week, we held a service project making cards and scarves for the homeless in Boston! The cards went to homeless elders, while the scarves went to homeless veterans. A group effort between many college interfaith groups, it was a chance to meet people from Boston University, Harvard, and many other Boston-area colleges, who were interested in service and interfaith cooperation!
INTERFAITH MEAL-PACKING SERVICE PROJECTS
For the past two years, we have partnered with Harvard and other Boston-area college interfaith groups to pack meals for hungry kids in Boston in November, close to Thanksgiving, with the organization Kids Care. In Fall 2012, together we raised $10,000 and were able to pack 40,000 meals!
We worked with various colleges and universities in the greater Boston area—including Boston College, Boston University, MIT, Fisher College, Brandeis University, Tufts University, and Gordon College—to host HUNGERally, an interfaith food drive and event to raise awareness of and provide education about the issues of hunger and homelessness here in Boston.
INTERFAITH FIELD TRIPS
We take trips to local religious sites around Boston, including Zen centers, synagogues, churches, mosques, and more!
